Nnamdi Kanu: Judicial earthquake – IPOB hails Kenya court ruling

Published on June 27, 2025 at 03:18 PM

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has described the victory of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu in a Kenyan court as a judicial earthquake.

Reacting to the Kenyan court verdict on Friday, IPOB said the development is just the beginning of more wins to come.

Kanu was apprehend in Kenya and repatriated to Nigeria by security agents in June 2021.

Following a suit filed by IPOB, a Kenyan High Court sitting in Nairobi, on June 24, ruled that Kanu’s extraordinary rendition was unlawful and illegal.

The court also ruled that the fundamental human rights of the IPOB leader was violated.

IPOB said the ruling has vindicated its stance that the Nigerian government and its Kenyan counterpart did not extradite Kanu but subjected to extraordinary rendition.

A statement by Emma Powerful, IPOB’s spokesman, said the group wishes to formally “announce a resounding judicial earthquake that has shaken the legal foundations of the fraudulent rendition”; its leader, Kanu.

“This judgement vindicates our consistent position that what transpired in Nairobi in June 2021 was not extradition but extraordinary rendition — a criminal act of state-sponsored international terrorism involving the highest authorities of the Nigerian and Kenyan governments.

“Let it be known that this is not the end. This is the beginning of a global accountability campaign.”;

IPOB vowed to pursue the matter “to the ends of the earth”; under the universal principle of accountability for crimes against humanity.

The group also appreciated Kenyan lawyer, PLO Lumumba, for his brilliance and courage.
