AT LEAST nine people have been killed in a huge explosion at a power plant as the blast triggers a stampede of terrified workers.

It’s understood a boiler exploded at the Vedanta Power Plant in Sakhti, Chhattisgarh, India, around 2pm on Tuesday.

It’s understood at least 50 workers were also injured, 18 of which are critical.

Rescue operations are underway.

The state’s chief minister Vishnudev Sai expressed his condolences for the tragedy.

“Our heartfelt condolences are with the families of the deceased and injured in this time of grief,” he said.

“An investigation will be conducted, and those found guilty will face the strictest possible action.”
