Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has stressed the necessity for enhancements in Nigeria's emergency services.
Obi made this statement in a post on his verified X account on Tuesday.

His comments came in response to the fire that devastated the Great Nigeria Insurance House located in Balogun Market.

The former governor of Anambra State expressed his condolences to the families and loved ones of those who perished in the incident.

He also praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency for their efforts in managing the rescue operations.

However, Obi urged the government and all relevant agencies to intensify their efforts to rescue those still trapped beneath the debris.

“I have just received the tragic news of the fire that consumed the Great Nigeria Insurance House in Balogun Market, Lagos Island. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this disaster. To the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives, I offer my deepest condolences.

“This tragedy highlights the urgent need for improvements in our emergency services. Let this moment act as a catalyst for better preparedness, stricter regulations, and a renewed dedication to safeguarding our citizens.

“I encourage all Nigerians to pray for the rescue of those trapped and to support the families impacted,” he wrote.
