Electricity supply to the Nigerian High Commission in Tshwane, South Africa, was cut off over outstanding electricity bills.

The city’s executive mayor, Dr Nasiphi Moya, disclosed on X that the power had been disconnected because the mission failed to settle its charges as required.

A few hours later, Dr Moya confirmed that electricity had been restored to the diplomatic post.
This is not the first occasion on which unpaid bills have led to a power cut at a Nigerian diplomatic office in South Africa.

In January 2023, City Power, the electricity distribution company in Johannesburg, disconnected supply to Nigeria’s consulate over an unpaid bill of approximately $35,000.
