The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that the reform agenda of President Bola Tinubu's administration has released resources, allowing state governments to initiate people-centered projects.

The minister made this statement on Wednesday while leading Commissioners of Information from states governed by the APC on an inspection of federal and state projects in Borno State, coinciding with their Quarterly Strategic Meeting in the region.

“The President's reform agenda is effective. It is channeling resources into the coffers of subnational governments so they can serve the people better,” he remarked.

At the completed 12MW Hybrid Solar Plant at the University of Maiduguri, developed by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and supported by the World Bank, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Mele, noted that the plant fulfills the energy requirements of the university and its teaching hospital, stating that the facility saves the institution N170 million in monthly payments to the Electricity Distribution Company.

The group also visited the 50MW Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant, which was commissioned by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration and has been fully operationalized by the current government, ensuring a reliable energy supply to households and businesses in the city and surrounding areas.

In the past year, the Borno State government has constructed 104 mega schools across the three Senatorial Districts, with 35 additional schools at various stages of completion.

During the visit to a school named in honor of President Bola Tinubu, Idris praised the Borno government, led by Governor Zulum, for effectively utilizing the increased state allocation by making significant investments in education and the future of the state's children.

Other projects inspected included the soon-to-be-commissioned fourth flyover in the state, the Borno Express Terminus Flyover, for which construction began at the start of the year.

“This demonstrates what collaboration between the federal government and subnational entities can achieve,” said Idris, attributing the state government's success in infrastructure development to the cooperative efforts of the Tinubu administration.

The Herwa EV station, one of seven electric vehicle mega charging stations established by the Borno State Government with assistance from the North East Development Commission (NEDC), was also inspected. According to Idris, this aligns with the federal government’s initiative towards cleaner and renewable energy.

Progress is also underway on the international wing of the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport in Maiduguri. It is worth noting that President Tinubu approved the upgrade of Maiduguri airport to international status in March 2025, making it the only international airport in the North East geopolitical zone.
