The Nigerian government, through the National Orientation Agency (NOA), has informed citizens about common mistakes made during the recitation of the National Anthem.
The agency also provided guidance on the appropriate usage of the National Anthem during various occasions.
In a statement posted on social media by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Spokesperson, titled ‘National Anthem Instructions’, the government stated, “Recite or sing only the first stanza (not all three stanzas) at official events.”
“The third stanza should be recited as the National Prayer at the beginning of an event.”
“The three stanzas are to be recited or sung only during Independence Day, the inauguration (swearing-in) of a President, Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Democracy Day (June 12), the inauguration of the National Assembly, and similar occasions.”
“The National Pledge should be recited at the conclusion of an event.”
