The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized President Bola Tinubu for what it describes as his administration's lack of sensitivity towards the escalating insecurity throughout the nation.

In a statement released on Sunday via X by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC accused the President of failing to fulfill his constitutional duty as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces while insecurity continues to rise across the country.

The party condemned Tinubu’s regular participation in social and political events amid increasing attacks and fatalities, labeling it as “unacceptable and irresponsible.”

Abdullahi noted that nine local government areas in Kwara State, once known for their peace, have recently been attacked by armed bandits, with residents reportedly coerced into providing food, drinks, money, and other items as ransom.

He further mentioned that a similar incident occurred in Kogi State, where travelers were killed and several others, including women and children, were abducted.

The ADC pointed out that over 180 schools in northern Nigeria have been closed due to insecurity, highlighting that incidents of abductions, killings, and forced displacements are on the rise in states like Plateau, Zamfara, Benue, Niger, Kaduna, and Kwara.

The party criticized the Federal Government’s repeated claims of “progress” in addressing insecurity, stating that these assertions are contradicted by the daily killings of innocent Nigerians.

It also took issue with the President for not visiting communities affected by violence, particularly in Plateau State, where hundreds were killed earlier this year, accusing him of displaying “cruel indifference” to the suffering of citizens.

“The President’s assertion of progress in combating insecurity is a tragic denial of reality,” Abdullahi stated, arguing that Tinubu’s actions have only deepened the divisions within the country.

The ADC urged the Federal Government to recognize the extent of the security crisis, directly engage with affected communities, enhance coordination of military and police efforts, and provide transparent public reporting on security operations and expenditures.

“Nigeria is under attack. This administration must stop pretending otherwise. The time for symbolic gestures has passed; the country now requires responsible leadership, operational urgency, and measurable results,” the statement concluded.
