The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has officially declared the results of Saturday’s local government elections, with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) winning all 25 chairmanship positions in the state.
The commission, in a statement released to the press and signed by the Commissioner for Operations, Barr. Mohammed Liman, stated that all Returning Officers had completed the collation and announcement of results in accordance with electoral laws and operational guidelines.
According to him, “Following a comprehensive review, the Commission validated the results, confirming the election of candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to all chairmanship roles.
“The newly elected chairmen include prominent individuals such as Dr. Mustapha M. Jibrin of Chanchaga, Usman Manko Mohammad of Bida, and Sayuti Ibrahim Halilu of Agaie, among others,” Liman remarked.
He also noted that, in addition to winning all 25 chairmanship positions, the APC triumphed in 271 out of the 274 councillorship seats.
The electoral body revealed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured only two councillorship seats in Tafa and Rafi Local Councils, respectively.
The Commission congratulated all elected chairmen and councillors, emphasizing the necessity of transparency, accountability, and a steadfast commitment to public service in the advancement of their local councils.
The Commissioner for Operations also mentioned that Certificates of Return would be officially presented to the elected officials, adding that stakeholders would receive notifications regarding the presentation in due time.
The state electoral body reaffirmed its dedication to upholding credible, transparent, and inclusive electoral processes.
The statement further praised the security agencies, observers, the media, political parties, and the electorate for their collaboration in facilitating a smooth local council election.
