Borno State governor, Prof. Babagana Umar Zulum, has called on governments at all levels to work collectively to mitigate the effects of climate change in the country.

Zulum made this call when he led a state delegation to the Government House in Minna to commiserate with the people and government of Niger State over the flood disaster that occurred in Mokwa.

He lamented the high volume of water being released, leading to floods, and the loss of lives and property in various parts of the country.

“What we are seeing is a great concern to us. Even now that there is not much rain, the volume of water coming is very high. This is due to climate change.

“The earlier the better for us to work together to mitigate the effects of climate change,”; he noted.

Prof. Zulum called on the Federal Government to set up a robust mechanism to check and address the issue of floods in the country.

The Borno governor stated, “There is need for sub-nationals to work together to mitigate the effects of this menace. I am calling on the federal government to set a roboust mechanism to address this issue to avert floods. And, I believe the federal government will look into this issue.”;

Zulum, who announced the donation of N300 million to victims of the flood in the state, said, “this donation is to complement the efforts of the Niger State government in addressing the challenges of the disaster that occurred.

“We are going through same challenge of flood, where hundreds of lives were lost. However, ours differs from your own because we lost more lives. Our prayers are with you.”;

Responding, Niger State governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, appreciated his colleague for the visit and the donation, describing it as timely and a show of love.
