NICOLAS JACKSON is poised to return to Chelsea with Bayern Munich unlikely to trigger his transfer clause.

, 24, joined last summer on a season-long loan deal worth £14.3million.

The Senegal star was given the boot after falling out of favour under previous boss Enzo Maresca.

And his lowly position in the squad was compounded by the arrivals of fellow strikers Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.

Jackson joined Bayern knowing he would play second fiddle to England captain Harry Kane, but was still confident of doing enough to secure a permanent transfer to the German champions.

which would see Jackson’s loan turned into a full-length transfer worth £56.2million if he appeared in 40 games for a minimum of 45 minutes each.

But in that time, Jackson has only featured 22 times for Bayern.

Just seven of those appearances have been for more than 45 minutes.

And The Times claims he is now unlikely to join Bayern permanently as a result, with Vincent Kompany’s side also unwilling to negotiate a new deal outside the clause.

Jackson has managed just five goals in all competitions for the Germans.

His participation at Afcon also left them short on forwards during the winter.

And Bayern are now set to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements, with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande on their wishlist.

As for Jackson, it now remains to be seen if he has a future at Chelsea after being frozen out by Maresca.

New boss Liam Rosenior is a fan of both Pedro and Delap, and also has his former Strasbourg striker Emmanuel Emegha joining this summer.

Despite that, Chelsea have not ruled out reintegrating Jackson, who himself is open to all options.

He also has interest from other Premier League clubs, as well as sides in Spain and Italy.

Jackson joined the Blues from Villarreal for £32m and scored 30 goals in 81 games while winning the Conference League and Club World Cup.
