The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has characterized the new year as a chance for a genuine new beginning.
Obi expressed this sentiment in a post on his verified X account on Thursday as part of his New Year message to Nigerians.
The former governor of Anambra State urged Nigerians to embrace unity, truth, sacrifice, and national renewal, calling for reflection and a renewed commitment to democracy.
“May this year be one where we take our democracy seriously, not merely as a ritual of elections, but as a daily pledge to unity, justice, accountability, compassion, and the rule of law.
“Let this mark the beginning of a true rebirth for Nigeria, a year when we find the courage to honestly confront our shortcomings and start building a broad national consensus grounded in integrity, fairness, and shared sacrifice,” he stated.
The politician from Anambra emphasized the significance of honesty in leadership, encouraging those in public office to reaffirm their sacred duty of truth-telling—regarding their backgrounds, intentions, policies, actions, and even their health.
He noted that public trust is founded on transparency and integrity, asserting that leadership should be perceived as a call to service rather than a means for personal gain.
