The spouse of the Oyo State governor, Mrs. Tamunumini Makinde, visited the first baby of the year on Thursday at the Adeoyo Maternity Hospital in Yemetu, Ibadan.
Makinde, who was represented by the Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, also visited two additional babies at the Adaramagbo Primary Health Center in Olomi and Moniya General Hospital, where she presented gifts to them.
The first baby, a boy, was born via Caesarean Section by Mrs. Bilikisu Lamidi at 12:01 a.m., weighing 3.6 kg.
The second baby, a girl weighing 3.1 kg, was delivered by Mrs. Rihanat Olajire at 12:46 a.m. at Adaramagbo PHC in Olomi.
The third baby, a boy weighing 3 kg, was born to Mrs. Ummukhairi Musa at 4:50 a.m. at Moniya General Hospital in Ibadan.
While celebrating with the families, Makinde presented N300,000 to the first baby, Lamidi; N250,000 to the second baby, Olajire; and N200,000 to the third baby, Musa.
She also provided hampers filled with baby items, and some other babies at the visited hospitals received cash gifts as well.
Makinde encouraged mothers to properly care for their children and to practice exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months.
She emphasized that exclusive breastfeeding is not only beneficial for the children but also complements immunization.
She advised mothers to avoid cursing their children and instead to pray for their well-being.
Makinde expressed her gratitude to all caregivers, doctors, and nurses for their dedicated work, urging them to continue their efforts in the new year.
“The governor’s wife team is here today to wish the mothers, fathers, and families of the newborn babies a wonderful new year and to congratulate them on the arrival of their little ones,” she stated.
One of the mothers, Mrs. Olajire, expressed her thanks to the governor’s wife and her team for their visit and generous gifts.
