As climate change continues to pose a significant threat to our ecosystem, a Non-Governmental Organization, New Dawn for the Elderly Foundation (NDF), has urged for a focused promotion of regenerative agriculture and biodiversity conservation.
It stated that this can be accomplished through extensive reforestation, tree planting, and integrated farming systems.
The Executive Director of the organization, Mrs. Patience Chat Bature, made this appeal during the 18th National Council on Environment exhibition held in the Awawa community, Abuja, themed: “Tackling the Triple Planetary Crisis: Climate Change, Biodiversity Loss, and Pollution for Sustainable Development.”
This project, carried out under the United Nations Development Programme – Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (UNDP GEF-SGP), had NDF as one of its grantees.
In a statement on Thursday, January 1, 2026, Mrs. Bature mentioned that in an effort to find climate solutions, the organization has initiated extensive tree-planting campaigns aimed at restoring lost canopy cover and sequestering carbon in communities.
She further explained that their innovative approach to Moringa Organic Fertilizer aims to promote biodiversity, highlighting the importance of harnessing the nutrient-rich properties of the Moringa tree to produce organic fertilizers that rejuvenate the soil without the toxic runoff associated with chemical fertilizers.
She added, “We have introduced biodiversity-centric farming, where crops, trees, and livestock thrive together in a symbiotic cycle, thereby moving away from extractive practices toward regenerative agriculture.”
Regarding the exhibition, which included policymakers, environmentalists, and industry leaders, Bature noted that the organization showcased how discarded agricultural husks and stalks, which were previously considered waste or burned openly, are now being compressed into high-energy briquettes.
She emphasized that these briquettes offer a clean-burning alternative to traditional charcoal, effectively addressing the issue of deforestation while reducing indoor air pollution for rural households.
