Her son, who is 21, wrote the screenplay for the upcoming release, which is essentially a family project since it was directed by his Oscar-winning mother.

The actor posed for photographers at the film’s world premiere at The Curzon in Mayfair, central London, accompanied by his superstar mother, who made her directorial debut with this film.

The rising star, who has a very famous father as well, was born in 2003 to celebrity British parents and grew up between the United States and the UK.

His parents married in the same year but separated in 2011 after eight years together.

The actor has since returned to the UK after relocating permanently with his mother and half-sister to escape paparazzi in New York, and the family now resides in West Wittering.

He followed in his mother’s footsteps by pursuing an acting career, making his on-screen debut in the Oscar-winning British war drama 1917 in 2019, which was directed by his father.

He later appeared in the female-led drama series I Am Ruth in 2022 and took a role in the biographical war drama Lee in 2023.

His first lead role also came in 2023, where he portrayed George Bobbin in the coming-of-age romantic comedy musical Bonus Track.

Now, he’s celebrating a significant career milestone alongside his mother, as they collaborated on a new project together.

However, award-winning actress Kate, 50, took her credits on the film from behind the camera for a change, rather than in front of it.

She attended the red carpet event for Netflix’s Goodbye June with her son Joe, marking her first time in the director's chair.

This also represents a significant advancement in Joe’s career, as he wrote the screenplay for the film.

He may have inherited some skills from his filmmaker father, Sam Mendes, who won an Oscar for his directorial debut with the 1999 blockbuster American Beauty.

Joe opted for a classic black two-piece suit paired with a white shirt, while Kate chose a simple, floor-length black strapless dress.

They appeared together on the carpet ahead of the movie’s release next Friday.

The film is described as a family drama centered on “fractured siblings who must come together under sudden and challenging circumstances.”

The star-studded cast includes Andrea Riseborough, Toni Collette, and Timothy Spall, all of whom also graced the red carpet.

The festive drama will be released on Friday, December 12, on Netflix, just in time for the Christmas holidays.
