NATHAN ASPINALL fears the PDC may nick his fans’ favourite walk-on tune off him and give to someone else should he fail to make the Premier League line-up.
Mr. Brightside by The Killers, the cult rock band, has become a signature song in darts over the past few years.
Nathan Aspinall fears the PDC may nick his fans’ favourite walk-on tune off him
Whenever Mr. Brightside is played Aspinall walks on to the stage and acts as the conductor
Whenever it is played, , 34, walks on to the stage and acts as the conductor and the crowd join in a good old sing-along.
Yet Aspinall – now down to 15th in the world ranking – has really not done enough to warrant a place in the Prem for 2026.
Unless he has a deep run at the – and he is a two-time semi-finalist at Ally Pally – then he is going to struggle to justify a pick in the eight-player field.
The worry the Asp has is that the PDC might want to use the anthem for the 17-week event, which will take place next year in eight countries between February 5 and May 28.
Aspinall said: “I hope they wouldn’t do it to me.
“But I have had a bit of a concern at the moment, obviously because I’ve fallen down the rankings and I might not potentially be in the this year.
“Mr. Brightside makes the Premier League, in my opinion. Everyone loves it.
“Are they going to give it to someone else for the Premier League? Can they do that? I don’t know.
“I’d be very disappointed if they did. That’s the only thing that I’ve thought about recently that could potentially happen.
“They can do what they want, can’t they? Let’s be honest. They probably wouldn’t care if I wasn’t in the Premier League, if you see what I mean.
“But that’s the only thing I’ve had a bit of a concern about recently. Say Gian van Veen, he’s got some weird Dutch song. Would they want him to walk out to that in England because everyone loves Mr. Brightside? I don’t know.
“That’s something I thought that might happen. Have I done enough to be involved? No. No way near. It’s already sold out anyway, so that line, ‘Nathan puts bums on seats’ – I’m probably putting myself out of a job here – but I’m like, they’ve already sold out anyway.
“I know a lot of people want me in the Premier League. Of course I want to be in it, but I think if you look at the players at the moment, am I in that top eight? No.
“But I’m not far off, though. I’ll probably say as it stands now I reckon I’m about tenth.”
There had been talk that Aspinall, a two-time major winner, was going to dump Mr. Brightside when he started using the opening bars of ‘s Lose Yourself before his walk-on.
That was never the case and he knows not to ditch the crowd puller. Though he does joke that he has removed it from his Spotify list so it does not come on randomly when he is in the car.
Aspinall – who will play Filipino Lourence Ilagan in the first round of the 2025-26 Worlds – said: “I’ve never once said I’m changing it. It’s going to be here for as long as I play .”
