NADS asks UNICAL to reverse withdrawal of 300 dental students

The Nigerian Association of Dental Students (NADS) has called on the management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) to ensure that students are not made to suffer the consequences of administrative lapses within the institution.

Few days ago, UNICAL directed over 300 dental students in 400 level to transfer to other schools due to alleged wrong admissions.

The institution claimed the number of students has out-weighed the institution’s facilities.

In a statement signed by its National President, Victory Ochuwa, the association expressed concern about the impact of the directive on final-year students who had already invested several years in their training. It called on the school to withdraw the directive.

According to the association, reversing the decision will help to ease tension that has built up in the institution.

Describing UNICAL’s decision as inhuman and totally unacceptable, the association also called on relevant bodies, including the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Nigerian Dental Association (NDA) and the Federal Ministries of Health and Education to intervene.
