A chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State, AbdulWaheed Olatunde Lawal, has advised Chairman of the party in the state, Olayide Abas to engage the Police and Department of State Service, DSS, to ensure safety of a member of the State House of Assembly, Ibraheem Shittu.
Lawal who hails from Saki West local government area noted that this is necessary to ensure that the lawmaker is not unlawfully suspended by the Assembly or unlawfully arrested.
The legal practitioner made the call in a statement issued on Thursday.
DAILY POST reports that Shittu, who represents Saki West state constituency, was the first person who raised an alarm that the House of Assembly has approved a N300b loan for the state Governor, Seyi Makinde.
The House of Assembly in its reaction described Shittu’s claim as baseless, in a statement signed by its Majority Leader, Sanjo Adedoyin and Chairman, House Committee on Information, Waheed Akintayo, describing Shittu as an absentee lawmaker. https://dailypost.ng/2025/08/28/n300bn-loan-oyo-assembly-brands-apcs-shittu-absentee-lawmaker/
But, Lawal who hails from the same local government area as the lawmaker, while speaking, advised the APC Chairman and other party leaders to engage the police and DSS to ensure that the lawmaker is not unlawfully suspended or arrested.
He advised the party not to abandon the lawmaker after he raised an alarm for wrongdoing, alleging that his life is in danger for speaking the truth.
He then called on the leaders of the party to petition the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party and the office of the President to invoke the full weight of the federal government to protect him from any harassment or threats.
He added that all eyes are on the party to do the needful. “Therefore, I hereby urgently call on the State Leadership of our Party to immediately: Publicly affirm the right of Shittu, as an APC legislator, to expose matters of alleged financial impropriety without fear of reprisal. The Party must stand firmly with him to demonstrate that we protect those who fight corruption, not those who perpetuate it.
“Officially engage with the Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Services, DSS, in Oyo State to guarantee the physical safety and security of Ibrahim Shittu. The Party must ensure he is not harassed or unlawfully arrested by any security agency.
“Should the threats persist, the Oyo State Chapter must not hesitate to formally petition the National Working Committee (NWC) of our Party and the office of the President to invoke the full weight of the federal government to protect a citizen and a lawmaker whose life is endangered for standing against corruption”.
