Vice President Kashima Shettima has welcomed Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State into the All Progressives Congress (APC) fold, praising his leadership and commitment to the people’s welfare.

“I know his excellency Caleb Mutfwang well enough to tell you how restless he has been in finding lasting solutions to the problems on the Plateau,” Shettima said at the official welcome ceremony in Jos.

DAILYPOST recalls that Mutfwang had three weeks ago dumped the PDP due to the leadership tussle bedeviling the national leadership of the party.

Shettima highlighted Mutfwang’s achievements, including building peace across communities, renewable energy projects, agricultural initiatives, and transport network revitalization.

“We have seen him focus on budgets that deepen peace, strengthen education, expand health care services and empower youth, demonstrating that his leadership is anchored on genuine service to the people,” he said.

The Vice President assured Mutfwang of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support, stating, “Your Excellency, we have seen the transformation Plateau has undergone under your leadership, and we are proud to have you on board the APC train.”

He added, “We welcome you with open arms, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured you that your place in this party is second to none.”

Shettima emphasised the APC’s inclusive nature, saying, “This deal is yet another confirmation that the APC is a destination for all who believe in a united future.”

He urged Plateau residents to prioritise unity, stating, “What binds us together supersedes whatever that divides us.”

The Vice President also announced plans to commence the Akwanga-Jos Road construction project, saying, “In the next three weeks, we are crossing the T’s and dotting the i’s, and the contractor will mobilise to site for the construction of the Akwanga-Jos road.”

Also speaking, Senate President Godswill Akpabio welcomed Governor Mutfwang into the APC, expressing optimism that the development would usher in peace, progress and the defeat of poverty in Plateau State.

In his remarks after receiving the APC flag, Governor Caleb Mutfwang expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, the APC National Chairman, Senator Simon Lalong and other party stakeholders for accepting him and his supporters into the APC.

Mutfwang clarified that his decision to join the APC was not to takeover the party structure but to add value and work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure the success of the APC and the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

He also paid glowing tribute to Senator Lalong for his purposeful leadership of the party in Plateau State and for relinquishing the position of party leader without rancour, describing the gesture as a clear demonstration of courage, wisdom and humility.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, described Governor Mutfwang’s movement to the APC as a welcome development and urged party members to work together in unity and resist divisive tendencies.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, said he was fulfilled to formally receive Governor Mutfwang—his former opponent during the 2023 governorship election—into the ruling party.

He expressed confidence that the renewed passion and unity among old and new members would translate into rapid development for Plateau State and massive electoral support for President Tinubu in 2027.

Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, said the Forum was delighted to welcome Governor Mutfwang, whom they believe will add value to the Forum, the party and the people of Plateau State and Nigeria at large.
