Despite the reported defection of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state, Dr. Felix Choji, asserts that the governor remains a member and leader of the PDP in the state.
It was noted that on Wednesday, December 17th, 2025, the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, announced Mutfwang’s defection during the party’s 14th National Caucus meeting held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

In a statement released on Wednesday, December 31, Choji mentioned that even with the APC's plans to formally welcome the governor into their party on January 20, 2026, he continues to be a member of the PDP, especially since he has not notified his supporters at the ward, local government, or zonal levels regarding any official defection.
“The reality is that as a party in Plateau, we have yet to receive any correspondence from him (the Governor) or through any of his representatives regarding his intention to leave the PDP. As of today, the governor remains a valid member and leader of the PDP in Plateau State,” Choji stated in his announcement.
“He is the leader of the party as we speak; we have not received any letter or communication indicating that he is departing from our party. Therefore, as far as we are concerned, a train cannot move without its head; he is the leader, and the party is awaiting his announcement.
“In politics, your membership originates from your ward. We have not received anything from his ward or from the local government he represents or from his zone, so we have not received any letter or communication to that effect from these three entities. We have conducted our checks, and there’s no evidence of that nature.”
