She sobbed as she appeared at Sheffield Crown Court today along with four others – including a 15-year-old girl.

Skopova, Peter Horvath, 19, Peter Horvath, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, are all charged with murder, causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice by taking steps to conceal the killing of an infant.

The teen girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with perverting the course of justice.

All five defendants, who are Slovakian nationals, were watched from the public gallery by 26 members of their family.

Judge Sarah Wright fixed a trial date for April 12 next year, saying it was expected to last six to seven weeks.

Judge Wright remanded all the defendants in custody and fixed the next hearing for October 2.

The court was told yesterday that the tot – named as Baby S – suffered 33 injuries including from 15 “separate stabbings” to her “face and torso – front and back”.

She was then allegedly wrapped in a towel and in a blue bag and dumped on top of a washing machine in outhouse, it was said.

Prosecutor Luke Hopkinson said the baby’s mum is the defendant Andrea Skopova.

She is the girlfriend of the Horvath Jnr, who is the son of the other two adult defendants, but he is not believed to be the baby’s father.

Two women, aged 26 and 37, who were arrested on suspicion of murder remain on bail.

Officers remain in the area conducting enquiries as the murder probe continues.

Lauren Costello, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor at CPS Yorkshire and Humberside, said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has decided to prosecute four individuals with murder following a police investigation into the death of a newborn baby girl in the Wincobank area.

“A fifth person has also been charged with perverting the course of justice.

“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.

“We have worked carefully with South Yorkshire Police as they carried out their investigation.

“We remind all concerned that proceedings against the defendants are active and they have the right to a fair trial.

“It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in anyway prejudice these proceedings.”
