Tributes have been made to a promising young motocross talent who tragically passed away during a private training session just three days after celebrating his father's birthday with a heartfelt "I love you" message.

Enzo Badenas, aged 17, had become an integral member of Spain’s national team after winning the Spanish 85cc championship in 2022.

The young athlete, who was advancing in the EMX125 Championship during the 2025 season, lost his life on Sunday while training at the Red Sand Park circuit in Castellon, located in eastern Spain.

The Specialised Centre for Motorsport Training (CETDM), situated at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Cheste near Valencia, released a statement confirming the sad news: “We mourn the loss of Enzo Badenas, a motocross rider born in Gandia, Valencia, on January 24, 2008.

“Badenas suffered a severe accident on Sunday, December 7, while training privately.

“Enzo joined the CETDM in 2023 following several achievements, including winning the Spanish 85cc Championship the previous year.

“During his time with us, he displayed remarkable personal and professional development, achieving numerous podium finishes and victories, as well as being selected for the Spanish Motocross Team to compete in regional, national, and international events, including the European Championship.

“The Circuit Ricardo Tormo Technification Centre is profoundly saddened by this news, and all staff at the CETDM and the Circuit extend their condolences, love, and support to Enzo’s family, friends, and loved ones during this challenging time.

“May he rest in peace.”

Motocross enthusiasts shared messages of support for his family and friends.

One user commented: “The saddest news possible for a motorcycle rider. Rest in peace. Sending a big hug to his family and friends.

“He was following his passion, and from Heaven, he will watch over all his colleagues.”

Another remarked: “Words fail me. You will always be in my heart, Enzo.”

The Valencia regional government expressed on X: “We deeply mourn the passing of young Valencian motorcycle rider Enzo Badenas at just 17 years old.”

One of Enzo’s final posts on Instagram was made at the end of last week, where he wished his Argentinian-born father Rafael a Happy Birthday and expressed his gratitude for his father's unwavering support in helping him achieve his sporting aspirations.

He wrote: “Today is the birthday of one of the most important people in my life and someone I love dearly.

“I can’t thank you enough for everything you have done and continue to do for me, nor can I express my gratitude adequately.

“We know what a fantastic team we are and how strong we can be together. We’ve experienced tough times, like when we were both crying in the hospital, but we’ve also had many joyful moments: finishing a training session feeling accomplished, singing together on the way home, completing a race successfully, or climbing onto the podium.

“Despite the ups and downs, I thank God for being able to share these experiences with you. You have no idea what an incredible father you are and how proud I am of you. Happy birthday, Dad. I love you.”
