Comrade Daniel Onjeh, the 2023 All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Benue South senatorial seat, has rejected Senator Patrick Abba Moro’s assertion that Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has animosity towards the Idoma people.
Onjeh characterized Moro’s remarks as “ill-informed, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and stir unnecessary ethnic tensions.”
Onjeh, who previously served as the chairman of the Project Development Institute (PRODA), stated that the reality contradicts Moro’s claims.
“Governor Alia has demonstrated more inclusion, commitment, and genuine care for the people of Benue South in just two years than the PDP-led administrations did in the sixteen years prior,” he remarked.
He pointed out that key ministries such as Finance, Education, Water Resources, Information, Women Affairs, and the office of the Head of Service are currently headed by capable individuals from Benue South.
“No leader who harbors hatred towards a community would delegate such crucial state administrative roles to them,” Onjeh added.
Onjeh mentioned ongoing projects in Benue South, including the rehabilitation of Oju Achoho Road, Igumale Agila Road, Otobi water works, and significant road projects such as Oju Awajir (52 km), Obagaji Okokolo Agagbe (43.5 km), and Igumale Agila (31.2 km).
He stated, “The Aliade Mbakine Obarike Ito road project, which spans approximately 36 km and opens up a corridor with tremendous agricultural potential, is also being considered as part of the Governor’s comprehensive development plan for Benue South.”
He emphasized that Governor Alia’s policies are directly aiding the most vulnerable in the region.
“The settlement of outstanding salaries, gratuities, and pensions has had an immediate and positive impact on everyday households,” Onjeh explained, noting that these payments have injected disposable income into the local economy and bolstered small businesses.
Onjeh also recalled a personal phone conversation with the Governor while he was overseas, during which they discussed issues affecting Benue South for nearly three hours.
“More than ninety percent of our conversation was focused solely on Benue South,” he noted, underscoring the Governor’s ongoing engagement with the Deputy Governor regarding the region's affairs.
