Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian artist, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, has called on the Lagos State Government to take legal action against his son’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba, along with others implicated by the Coroner’s Inquest into the singer’s death.
This request was outlined in a petition directed to the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, and was signed by Aloba’s legal representative, Wahab Shittu SAN.
In the correspondence, Aloba specifically demanded the prosecution of Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered an injection to the singer shortly before his passing in September 2023.
He also urged that all individuals present in Mohbad’s apartment at that time, particularly those who called the nurse or neglected to seek immediate medical assistance, be held accountable.
The petition referenced the Coroner’s ruling delivered in July 2025 by Magistrate Taofikat Shotobi, who determined that the nurse’s actions were both “unlawful and professionally negligent,” noting her administration of an injection without a doctor’s prescription.
Magistrate Shotobi also criticized Mohbad’s wife for choosing to treat her husband at home instead of taking him to a medical facility.
Despite these findings, Aloba’s attorney, Shittu, expressed concern that over two months have passed since the Coroner’s report was issued, and the Lagos State Government has not yet initiated criminal proceedings against those indicted.
“Our client, as a grieving father seeking justice, is profoundly troubled by the fact that, despite the clear indictments in the Coroner’s verdict, no prosecutorial actions have been taken since July 11, 2025,” the letter stated in part.
The lawyer urged the Attorney-General to begin prosecution within 14 days, considering the case's high sensitivity and public interest.
Shittu further requested that if the state opts not to act, the Attorney-General should provide his legal team with formal authorization to prosecute the matter on behalf of the state under the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State.
