MORE migrants have arrived in Britain than have been kicked out under PM Sir Keir Starmer’s much-touted “one-in, one-out” deal with France, figures show.

Home Secretary admitted yesterday that while 350 have been let in under the scheme only 281 have been returned.

Since September last year — the month after the launch of the deal — more than 10,000 people have .

At least two deported under one-in, one-out sneaked back.

They were detained and returned again.

The scheme lets Britain return in exchange for taking the same number of applying through legitimate routes.

Ms Mahmood defended the plan, saying the time it takes to detain people and “get them on a plane” had caused hold-ups.

She added: “It started very small and very slowly.

“The French authorities and us were concerned about whether we could physically handle implementing the pilot and whether we had the right infrastructure in place. The numbers will grow.”

Tory Shadow Home Secretary fumed: “The chances of an illegal Channel migrant being removed under this scheme is virtually zero.

“It’s no surprise that illegal immigrants continue to flood across the Channel on this Home Secretary’s watch.”

Some 41,472 arrived on , the second-highest total.
