FIRST we had all the brouhaha about Megxit, followed by six long years of Harry and Meghan cashing in with claims they were bullied and abused royals.

Now, with The Sun that Harry and Meghan are coming home, it seems the ‘American Dream’ is over.

Despite declaring they’d , it has all gone pear-shaped in LA – so for our next new chapter we’ve got REGREXIT.

But surely before Harry and Megs get out the party streamers and ‘Welcome Home’ banners for themselves – Harry owes his poor pa a very public apology?

Not a phone call, not a private word over tea at . Public. Said where the country that mourned Elizabeth II can hear it.

He took his ‘freedom flight’ with glee – heading for his American Dream.

They cashed-in big time by betraying confidences. Who can forget , timed for the Christmas ratings?

Harry sat beside her and said nothing.

Add to that the , and the alleged and smashed dog bowl in Spare, the pair have trashed the Queen’s legacy.

There is another debt.

In Harry called Queen Camilla “the villain,” said she was “dangerous,” and accused her of leaking his own private conversations to rehabilitate her image.

He talked of “bodies left in the street” – his over-the-top expression.

He wrote that she had “sacrificed” him “on her personal PR altar.”

It is an accusation of calculated betrayal, in hardback, against a woman who is now his Queen.

Camilla kept quiet. She didn’t even ask for a correction.

The debt to his brother William hasn’t been paid either.

Now the Palace, commentators, the couple’s own people PR man/team have got to manage this homecoming.

Saying it is a “New chapter” is not enough. More marketing.

But here’s what should worry the palace courtiers charged with keeping the monarchy on track.

That isn’t a couple in crisis reaching for privacy. It looks to me a couple in crisis reaching for a production deal.

They leave California before the end of the month for a, possibly the Cotswolds where they stayed during their recent UK visit.

Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, start at a British school in September.

Come on that hasn’t just happened.

That decision has surely been a long time in the planning. They didn’t just pluck it out of the air this weekend.

They are keeping and their too.

We are told nothing changes in their status.

Private individuals, non-working royals, no duties resumed.

But if the King thinks they are not going to rock the boat he is wrong, and I fear the worst is yet to come.

If the King was apparently only told on Sunday, he has been seriously blindsided.

It’s very unlikely you could enrol two children in British schools in a fortnight.

There are registrars, headteachers, months of quiet groundwork behind it.

This must have been in the planning for months, and the king is not told?

The sequencing suggests Grandpa was only told once it was unmovable.

They were at Highgrove in July. for the first time since 2022.

The Palace called it a private family occasion. Reports say it was not discussed. Really?

Now the King has to deal with the fall-out from this fait accompli.

The Palace had no room to soften it before the public had already made up its mind.

Until September he is an American boy with a British title, thousands of miles from the institution theoretically he could be asked to serve.

From September he is a child in a British classroom, with British friends, his Californian twang disappearing with every term.

Monarchy runs on familiarity.

It survives on people the country has watched grow up, on faces it knows before it knows anything else about them.

Harry spent six years arguing his kids could not safely have that in dangerous Britain.

Now, despite nothing changing here, he thinks they can.

And still, by every visible sign, he and Meg now want this too.

By welcoming this without demanding the apology first, Charles is creating a problem for himself.

It will leave William holding a bill his father left.

He has spent years building something legible – steady, unshowy – precisely because the family’s alternative default, for a generation now, is chaos dressed up as candour.

Let this pass without an apology and the lesson written into it is plain: grievance, monetised loudly enough and long enough, eventually earns just an institutional shrug.

That is the opposite of everything William’s model of monarchy is meant to prove; restraint gets rewarded, hard work is respected, that the family’s dignity outweighs any one member’s personal whims.

Then there is a question of trust. Can the royals – can we – really trust Meghan and Harry?

Remember even before they let the cat out the bag that they were heading for ‘Freedom” they were filming their grievances, ready to cash in on it down the line.

He had likely been planning his bestseller too.

It is a dilemma for Charles and William. Rise above it, say nothing, and the silence gets read as consent. Bring Harry inside the tent and you are back where you started. Keep him outside and he is free to build what he likes on British soil. There is no clean answer.

Then there are the diaries. Harry and Meghan will have their own engagements here now. Private ones. Commercial ones. Some will fall on the same day as the King’s, or William and Catherine’s. The cameras will have to choose. That is how you end up with an alternative royal family. A headache for the courtiers who plan the year out in advance.

Surely, the Palace should issue a statement – on the record – not whispered advice – reminding the people that the King is sticking to the Sandringham Summit deal.

There will be no half in, half out deal. The Sussexes are private individuals and no taxpayers’ money will be spent on them.

Say it plainly. Before the school gates. Before the Christmas photograph. Harry stands up and says what was done, to whom, and that he’s sorry.

Everything else is fudge.
