The National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the South-South region, Emmanuel Ogidi, has expressed confidence that governors and other members who recently departed from the party will return shortly.
Ogidi made this statement while answering questions on Arise Television’s news program on Wednesday, emphasizing that despite current challenges, the PDP remains a structured and resilient party capable of resolving its internal issues.
He dismissed worries regarding alleged plans to disrupt the party’s upcoming national convention, asserting that the PDP’s governing bodies — the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) — are firmly managing the process.
“There was a group attempting to disrupt the convention when they convened in Abuja and set forth certain conditions, but PDP is an organized party, for goodness’ sake. You cannot simply emerge and declare yourself a stakeholder,” Ogidi stated.
He claimed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had “weaponized hunger,” prompting some individuals to act against the PDP, but he maintained that those who left the party would ultimately return.
“We all understand their reasons for leaving, but we firmly believe they will come back,” he noted.
Ogidi also criticized some PDP members, including governors and senators, for their impatience regarding the timing of the party’s convention, stressing there is no reason to doubt the process.
“Some of these governors or senators lack patience. The convention is only weeks away. Why are they assuming it won’t take place? We are in court, but that should not cause panic. If you’ve acted correctly, the court will deliver justice,” he remarked.
Ogidi assured that the party is adhering to due process and expressed optimism that the upcoming convention will proceed as scheduled.
