The Methodist Bishop of Item Diocese, Abia State, Rt. Rev. Ikechukwu Emezi Nkulo has urged the Federal Government and state governors to promptly implement employment strategies that will tackle the increasing unemployment among the youth.

Nkulo made this statement on Sunday in Umuahia, emphasizing that meaningful employment opportunities for young people would help mitigate issues such as banditry, unknown gunmen, and kidnappings that are affecting Nigerian communities.

Bishop Nkulo addressed the audience at the Vision Africa Radio talent show 2025 in Umuahia.

He remarked that the unrest caused by insecurity across the nation could be alleviated if the focus of Nigeria’s large youth population is directed towards constructive activities.

He expressed worry about the economic struggles that many Nigerians are experiencing, attributing the situation to the selfishness and greed exhibited by leaders at various levels.

“Governance should not revolve around personal gain; the population needs to be employed, and this must be done urgently to ease the tension across the country,” he stated.

“Young people are easily drawn to disruptive and harmful activities when they lack employment, which explains the rise in banditry, unknown gunmen, and kidnappings,” said Bishop Nkulo.

Earlier in his address, the President of Vision Africa, Archbishop Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha, mentioned that the annual Icons radio talent show aims to nurture future leaders, generate employment, and foster peace in Nigeria.
