Taking part in a promotional event, Bosnich went in goal as a series of high-profile guests took penalties.
The ex-Australia international got down well to save an effort by former AFL chief Gillon McLachlan.
Bosnich hurt himself doing so, immediately crying out in pain.
He was initially able to limp over a chair.
But even after icing the injury, Bosnich required a trip to hospital.
The former Prem winner went on to confirm to Aussie outlet Nine that he would require surgery on the injury.
Bosnich, who is set for a busy summer working for broadcaster Stan Sports, didn’t seem too concerned.
He told Code Sports: “I’ll be right.”

Some attendees of the promotional event in Sydney thought that Bosnich had initially been joking about the extent of his injury.
McLachlan himself said: “I hit it flush. He overreacted.”
Ex-Socceroo Archie Thompson added: “I kept expecting him to get back up.
“I’m hoping it’s a stitch-up. If it is, his acting is incredible.”
Bosnich made more than 200 Premier League appearances across spells at Manchester United, and between 1990 and 2003.
He was a regular between the sticks as Man Utd won the Prem title in 1999-2000.
