SunSport can exclusively reveal that United will reject all approaches for Maguire, 32, this month.

With Maguire set to become a free agent this summer, both Milan and a host of Prem teams are expected to compete for his signature.

SunSport revealed that Maguire held hopes for a second extension to his United contract back in October.

Maguire is currently tied to the club until this summer after former head coach triggered a one-year extension in January 2025, citing a squad that was “starved of leaders”.

Now that Amorim has been sacked, it remains unclear whether Maguire’s deal will be extended again until 2027 or if the club will cut ties with their £80million club record defensive signing.

Maguire, who earns approximately £140,000-per-week, has suffered with several injuries this season, missing 10 of United’s 21 Prem fixtures.

But Carrick wants the club to reject all approaches for the veteran centre-back, who has become a fan favourite after a difficult few years.

Carrick’s No2 Steve Holland holds Maguire in high regard after the pair spent eight years together in the England set-up.

It was former Three Lions boss and his ex-assistant manager Holland that handed Maguire his international debut in October 2017.

Maguire was named in the 2018 Fifa World Cup squad and remained a staple of the side through the 2018 World Cup, Euro 2020 and 2022 World Cup.

He missed out on through injury and Holland left his role following Southgate’s resignation after England suffered defeat in the final against Spain in July 2024.

Maguire has also been reunited with Travis Binnion, who has stepped up from coaching the Under-21s to help Carrick with the first team.

The Sheffield-born star first linked up with Binnion at age 14, back when the coach was working with Sheffield United’s youth setup.

United are short of options at the back this season and the club have no plans to sign any January reinforcements.

Maguire is the oldest of United’s five specialist centre-backs and youngsters Leny Yoro, 20, and , 19, have struggled to fill the injury void this season.

Yoro and Heaven, while young, have been at the heart of the backline in recent weeks as United have won just two of their last 10 games.

international , 26, has been sidelined since United’s 2-1 win at Crystal Palace in November.

Maguire returned to the pitch for the final 15 minutes of United’s defeat to Brighton in the third round last Sunday.

The Red Devils signed him from Leicester for a world record £80m fee for a defender in 2019 and he remains the most expensive defender in the game’s history.

Despite his continued absence from the England squad, Maguire has enjoyed an impressive couple of years at United since a £30m transfer to collapsed in 2023.

He secured his place in United folklore with a last-minute strike against Lyon during April’s 5-2 victory, and by delivering the club’s first win at Anfield in a decade.
