Man Utd Player Ratings: Marcus Rashford Misses Key Opportunity to Shine for Michael Carrick as Red Devils Suffer Another Bruno Penalty Blunder

MANCHESTER UNITED got more than they bargained for in their pre-season friendly with AC Milan.

got his revenge on his former side as the Red Devils fell to a dismal 4-2 loss in Poland.

After taking the lead inside two minutes, United let the contest slip away from them and ended up suffering a torrid second half where even their chances came more from the other team’s failings than their own invention.

But there were a few bright sparks in the otherwise dreary performance.

Here’s how SunSport’s Mitchell Hall ranked the Red Devils in Wroclaw…

Senne Lammens – 5

Made a comfortable stop after Tielemans’ mistake gifted Milan a chance, but really shone with an athletic reaction save with his foot after a quarter of an hour.

Was left overexposed for Milan’s first equaliser, with a spare man at the back post taking him completely out of the occasion.

Did not drop any howlers for the coming onslaught of Milan goals, but questions will always be asked after conceding four

Noussair Mazraoui – 6

Didn’t look at sea on the right flank but struggled to stop Estupinan from getting his crosses in.

Had little opportunity to join Amad in attack and seemed mostly occupied with bolstering the defence.

Failed to track Cisse at the back post for Milan’s second goal, but was off the pitch for the worst of his side’s defending.

Harry Maguire – 6

Announced his arrival in Milan in just under two minutes, dominating two defenders in the box to head home from a Bruno Fernandes corner.

Looked surprisingly calm on the ball when Milan elected to press and broke up some promising Milan attacks in the early stages.

Had a part in a comedy of errors for Milan’s first equaliser, having been bundled over by Santos and a Milan star to leave Heaven outnumbered, but didn’t do too much wrong for the others.

Ayden Heaven – 4

Not as neat and tidy as his defensive partner, Heaven was caught flat footed a couple of times and forced into winning a clever foul or spraying a hopeful pass.

Gave away the ball on a few occasions in build up but was mostly unfussed by Ramos when Milan had the ball, and there was nothing he could do about their equaliser.

His frequent fouling did not help when United were looking to hold onto the ball and build momentum.

Luke Shaw – 5

Like Mazraoui, his main occupation seemed to be in defending, and he seemed happy to let Dorgu maraud down the left wing on his own.

Was left hopelessly outnumbered at the back post for Milan’s first goal, and there were some occasions in the second half that Heaven and Santos had to fill in to cover for him.

Other than that, he failed to make an impact.

Andrey Santos – 5

Lacked the classy touch of Tielemans in the midfield but substituted his energy and running.

Was a nuisance to a few Milan shirts on the ball in the middle of the park, but proved to be equally disruptive to his own defence when he fell into Maguire and sent the pair to the floor.

Youri Tielemans – 6

Gave away the ball cheaply in his own defensive third and was bailed out by Lammens’ routine save.

Made up for it a few minutes later when he glided past his man and threaded a perfect through ball to Amad, forcing Pervis Estupinan to drag him down and take a yellow card.

Was very fortunate to receive a penalty after dallying on a loose ball and seeing his shot blocked, only for it to be pulled back for a phantom pull on the former Villa star.

Amad – 5

Almost nicked the ball off of the towering Strahinja Pavlovic early in the game and was generally eager to hassle defenders.

But his impact faded and he became a bit of a passenger in the second half.

Was hooked for Shea Lacey who struggled in much the same way.

Bruno Fernandes – 4

Contributed early on with a perfect corner delivery that was dutifully headed home by Maguire, but was otherwise given very little time in the middle of the park.

His touches largely came in the form of tricky first-time passes that rarely came off.

He thought he had the chance to make his mark after a questionable penalty went United’s way, but he could only power his effort into the goalkeeper’s outstretched arm.

Patrick Dorgu – 8

Looked lively from the off and tested goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani inside 30 seconds, with Maguire heading home from the resulting corner.

For someone used to playing as a full-back, he showed no fear in charging down the opposition back line, and his pressing played a part in winning United their penalty.

Was a real handful for Milan’s back line and seemed to be the most likely avenue for United to produce chances, which he proved when he pounced on a loose back-pass to tuck a strike past the keeper from point-blank range.

Matheus Cunha – 5

Dropped alongside Fernandes at times and allowed Dorgu and Amad to take up more central roles further forward.

Failed to get too involved when United had the ball, however, and his few touches were often under pressure and wayward.

Hooked after 60 minutes for Mbeumo, but at that point United were already under the cosh.

Lisandro Martinez (for Heaven 61′) – 4

Was woefully outpaced by for Milan’s fourth goal, and the AC Milan man is hardly a speedster himself.

Marcus Rashford (for Dorgu 61′) – 4

Struggled to get away from his man down the left flank after coming on.

Displayed some neat footwork as United cranked up the pressure, but fluffed his lines when he finally got a good ball in behind.

Not the message he would have wanted to send to his nemesis Amorim watching from the technical area.

Diogo Dalot (for Mazraoui 61′) – 4

Gave Ramos too much space at the back post for Milan’s third goal after being caught between two runners.

Shea Lacey (for Amad 61′) – 5

Eager down the right wing but was mostly outmatched by Milan’s covering defenders.

Some nifty footwork was repeatedly let down by scrappy passing.

Kobbie Mainoo (for Santos 61′) – 6

Showed some promise immediately after coming on but his impact faded as Carrick turned to speculative crosses in hopes of getting the side back in the fight.

Bryan Mbeumo (for Cunha 61′) – 5

United were fighting an uphill battle by the time he arrived and he was always going to struggle to get on the ball through the middle.
