MICHAEL APPLETON has left Shrewsbury Town with the club threatened with relegation to non-league football.
The former Manchester United star joined the club in March 2025 but has failed to take them up the League Two table.

Appleton, 50, spent three years with the Red Devils between 1994 and 1997 but only played twice in the EFL Cup.
Since retiring from playing, he has embarked on a career in management, taking charge of the likes of Charlton Athletic and Blackpool.
He is now without a club following his exit from Shrewsbury Town in which he was joined by his assistant Richard O’Donnell.
The club released a statement confirming the end of his tenure as manager.
Shrewsbury have also revealed that they have began their search for his replacement.
It read: “Shrewsbury Town can confirm head coach Michael Appleton and his assistant Richard O’Donnell have left the club by mutual consent.
“Michael and Richard have conducted themselves with professionalism and integrity since arriving in Shropshire in March last year.
“We would like to thank them both for all their hard work during their time at the football club.
“We wish them the best of luck for the future.
“The process of appointing a new head coach is underway.
“We will update supporters as soon as we are able to.”
