MANCHESTER UNITED defender Lisandro Martinez has been ruled out against Everton due to a suspected calf injury.

The 28-year-old had started United’s last nine Premier League matches and has been rock solid in a back-two alongside Harry Maguire under Michael Carrick.

Martinez, who has struggled with injuries throughout his United career, returned from a nine-month layoff in November after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury to his left knee last February.

United claim they hope this latest problem will only keep him out for one to two weeks.

SunSport understands that Martinez picked up the knock in training during United’s 13 day break between the 1-1 draw at West Ham and Monday’s trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Martinez and Maguire have kept two clean sheets in Carrick’s first five games, helping record wins over City, Arsenal, and Tottenham.

United have secured just seven wins in 18 games without Martinez, but managed five victories in nine when the Argentine has started.

Fans were downbeat after the news broke, with one writing: “We’re doomed” on X.
