Another added: “This kid is a magician!”

Should Gabriel feature for the first team in the coming weeks, he will become United’s youngest ever player.

The record is currently held by the late David Gaskell, who was just 16 years and 19 days old when he kept a clean sheet in the 1956 Charity Shield.

First team boss was in attendance at the Under-21s’ clash with Ipswich last week.

Carrick said of Gabriel: “I really enjoyed the game. You could see the quality.

“JJ is one of the boys. He’s obviously got a really big talent. He’s trained with us quite a bit and is getting experience all the time.

“He’s physically adapting to each step that he makes, and we’re just continuing his development.”
