He arrived from and had to wait several weeks for clearance from having put pen to paper for Newton Abbott Spurs shortly before.

But he has now settled into life at Carrington and is learning from the biggest stars at the club.

Asked who his mentors are, Overy explained: “My dad, definitely… but if it is a player, I’d definitely say .

“Last time I was with him in training I was just taking free-kicks because one of our free-kick takers was injured.

“I was thinking, if we get a free-kick, I’m gonna take this. So I’m just taking free-kicks and he comes over and for an hour, he’s there teaching me techniques. “He’s like, ‘I do this, I aim for this man, like dip it or hit it there.’ I just look up to him so much.

“Even in the sessions, he will just drive it and be one of the best players, him and Kobs [Mainoo], yeah it’s crazy…”

Fans have been left impressed by Fernandes’ leadership qualities and heaped praise on the Red Devils captain.

One reacted saying: “Captain for a reason. Should be at as long as he wants.”

Another added: “A manager in there.”

A third wrote: “That’s a true captain not just on the pitch.”
