Political analyst Mahdi Shehu has expressed worries regarding the motives behind the United States' recent involvement in Nigeria.
His remarks questioned U.S. foreign policy and what he described as a biased approach to security discussions within the nation.

In a post on X, Shehu contended that the U.S. has a lengthy history of violence in various regions.

He remarked that “numerous instances have been documented on the global stage where America has been accountable for the indiscriminate killings of innocent Christians over the past century.”

He further noted that a similar trend can be observed in Muslim-majority nations, stating, “from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, Somalia, and others, America has gained notoriety for the killing of innocent Muslims.”

He also asserted that the current American delegation in Nigeria is selectively interacting with specific groups.

According to him, “the purpose of the American representatives currently in Nigeria is not to confirm that Muslims have been disproportionately affected by terror attacks and fatalities… but to selectively engage the Christian community and pressure groups in order to draft their report from a one-sided perspective.”

Shehu additionally claimed that the U.S. is advocating for significant legal and religious modifications in northern Nigeria.

He stated that Washington’s alleged intention to eliminate Sharia provisions from state laws is, in his opinion, “a clear indication that America and its local and international instigators are merely disguising themselves behind ‘Fulani terrorists, Fulani kidnappers, ISWAP, Boko Haram.”

He concluded, “but the true aim is to intimidate Muslims, extort, kill, injure, dispossess, and render them refugees so that they can exploit the vast mineral resources buried throughout the North.”
