COMMUTERS are experiencing significant disruption on the M62 due to rush-hour traffic being halted following a multi-car accident, resulting in spillages on the roadway and delays of up to one hour.

Two of the four lanes are currently closed on the M62 westbound in Greater Manchester this morning, between Junction 12 and Junction 11.

Motorists are facing delays of up to 90 minutes with five miles of traffic congestion.

Emergency services swiftly arrived at the scene following the accident, where spillages were also reported on the road surface.

Initially, three of the motorway's four lanes were closed, but one lane has since been reopened.

Recovery and cleanup operations are currently underway, according to National Highways.

They stated: “Two lanes (of four) remain closed on the M62 westbound in Greater Manchester between J12 (M60) and J11 (Risley) due to a collision.

“Recovery and cleanup efforts are ongoing at the scene.

“There is now an hour and a half delay with five miles of congestion.”
