A SECTION of the M5 is at a standstill following a vehicle fire this evening.

Traffic on the northbound carriageway of the motorway is being held between junction 22 and 21.

National Highways has warned there are four miles of congestion.

Cops and fire crews are at the scene between Weston-super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea.

One witness told Somerset Live : “Car on fire just after junction 22 going north. Traffic at a standstill, fire and police on the scene”.

Another witness said: “Car on fire northbound between Burnham and Weston.”

Inrix, the road and traffic monitoring site, reported the fire at 5.27pm.

It said: “All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to vehicle fire on M5 Northbound from J22 (Burnham-on-sea) to J21 A370 (Weston-super-mare).”
