A major UK motorway has been closed following a “serious collision,” prompting police to initiate an investigation into the incident.
Motorists have been warned of significant delays on the M1 near Milton Keynes, Northamptonshire, after the tragic crash occurred last night.
Traffic officers and police were dispatched to the scene just before 11 PM.
The road was closed overnight as authorities examined the incident, affecting traffic in both directions.
National Highways confirmed that northbound traffic remains blocked between Junction 14, for Milton Keynes, and Junction 15, for Northampton.
It stated: “The M1 is closed northbound between Junction 14 and Junction 15 due to a serious collision that took place shortly before 11 PM last night.
“The incident is being managed by Northamptonshire Police, who have been conducting collision investigation work throughout the night.
“National Highways Traffic Officers have been working overnight to clear traffic that was trapped within the closure.
“Contractors will also assist with traffic management.
“The road is expected to remain closed until at least 08:00 this morning while investigation work continues.
“Once completed, recovery and clean-up operations will commence.”
