The Igbo Community Association in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in light of increasing public demand.
The President General of the association, Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, expressed this plea in a statement, urging President Tinubu to listen to the citizens and address the issue in a democratic manner.
He cautioned that Kanu's ongoing detention, which has lasted over four years, could pose a significant distraction to the current administration if not resolved promptly.
Ellis-Ezenekwe pointed out that many Nigerians perceive Kanu’s extended imprisonment without a conviction as an injustice, recalling that he was forcibly taken from Kenya and returned to Nigeria by government officials.
He implored the President to utilize his executive powers to peacefully resolve this situation, characterizing Tinubu as a “shrewd and astute politician” who must also exhibit wisdom as a democratic leader.
“The people demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu. He is entitled to justice. It is not unlawful for people to advocate for their rights,” he emphasized.
