Speculation surrounding Lisa’s relationship status had been swirling for months – from a ditched engagement ring to solo sightings – before she admitted her single status earlier this week.

But she and fiancé George – who were engaged for almost a decade – actually quietly ended their romance long before fans started asking questions.

Admitting there were hopes of a reconciliation after the initial split, a source tells us: “Lisa kept the split under wraps for almost a year because, deep down, she desperately hoped they would find their way back to each other. She wasn’t ready to accept that it was over.”

“She took time out for herself, went travelling and really worked on herself. Part of her believed that, with a bit of space and time, they might find their way back to one another.”

“Lisa never saw the split as the end of the story. For a long time she genuinely believed there was a chance they could reunite. That hope is what made it so difficult for her to go public.”

But when it reached almost a year since she and George parted ways, Lisa realised the chances of getting back together were slim.

“Eventually it became impossible to ignore the reality. They weren’t getting back together, and Lisa has had to face the incredibly painful truth that the relationship is over for good,” they explained.

Whilst Lisa said she was feeling ‘strong and excited’ during a podcast appearance, it’s not been an easy feat to get to this point.

Admitting a single life wasn’t part of the former model’s plan, our insider says: “She is absolutely devastated to find herself single at 54. This isn’t how she imagined her life would look at this stage, and it has been a huge emotional adjustment.”

“There has been a lot of sadness behind the scenes, but Lisa is determined to put a brave face on things. She’s trying to focus on the positives and see this as a new chapter rather than the end of her story.”

Since their split, friends of Lisa’s have suspected that George may have met someone else.

This, they say, has forced Lisa into accepting the relationship is well and truly over.

And for her, the hopes of getting a happily ever after aren’t off the cards.

“Ultimately, Lisa still wants what she has always wanted — to settle down, find true happiness and have that sense of security with somebody. That dream hasn’t gone away just because this relationship has ended,” we’re told.

The star is also hoping to inspire other women who could be single in their fifties – with her revelation a bid to connect with fans and help others.
