LIAM ROSENIOR admits he must stop the rot at Chelsea now or risk the sack.

Blues chiefs previously made it known Rosenior’s job did NOT depend on him securing football for next season.

But the tone is shifting amid a dismal run of only one win in EIGHT Premier League games which has left SEVEN points behind fifth-placed Liverpool.

Rosenior, when asked if he had received assurances from bosses that he would stay in charge even if he failed to guide the Blues to the CL, said: “They’re supporting me. They believe in me.

“There’s one thing I haven’t believed: the reality of the situation.

“At Chelsea Football Club we’ve lost our four last league games. That’s not good enough.

“Regardless of what they believe I can achieve with the club in the long term, I need to get results now with this group and with the sporting directors as well.

“I can’t speak about the long term if you’re not doing a job in the short term and being really respectfully honest here, we haven’t done well enough in recent games.

“That needs to change and that’s on my shoulders as the head coach of this team.

“I have made mistakes. I’m going to make more mistakes, every coach does, but with the guys here, how they support me, because we all want success for the club, we can be open and honest about that.

“We know we need to win games of football in the now.”

Last week Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali backed Rosenior – but left him and his fellow Stamford Bridge chiefs wriggle room to sack him if he was unable to stop the current rot.

Speaking at a sports conference in Los Angeles, Eghbali said of Rosenior: “We’ve had a tough past five, six matches, but I think we’re behind Liam.

“Of course, it’s a results business, but we think he can be successful long term.”

Before Saturday’s home match against , Chelsea star claimed “everything changes” if the Blues did not make the Champions League.

And it seems the 1-0 defeat – the Blues’ fourth Premier League loss in a row without scoring, has undermined Rosenior’s short-term position.

, with chants aimed at owners BlueCo, majority BlueCo shareholders Clearlake Capital and Eghbali personally.

With Eghbali and other Chelsea chiefs sitting in executive boxes, those same songs rang around Stamford Bridge as the Blues slumped to defeat.

Rosenior and his team face a huge task to force their way into the top five. On Tuesday they face a tricky trip to face Brighton, who will go above them if they win at the Amex.

The Chelsea head coach said: “We’ve made it very difficult for ourselves.

“We have to be honest and realistic with that.

“What we can’t do is give up, we keep fighting.”
