A LANDLORD was shocked to return to his property after several years, only to find it in a nightmarish condition.
Martin, 65, from Essex, decided to stop being a landlord after discovering that his house was in such disarray that he “couldn’t find anyone willing to clean it.”

The two-bedroom house, recently renovated, had been rented for several years without any apparent issues.
This changed when Martin received an unusual phone call from a social worker attempting to reach one of the tenants.
He found it suspicious when he was unable to contact the couple himself.
Consequently, he decided to visit the property, but what he discovered left him horrified.
Martin shared with The Sun: “After I first saw the condition, I shut the door and didn’t return for a month.”
Trash and human waste were scattered across the floors and smeared on the walls, with piles of decaying refuse in every room.
After several cleaning companies declined to approach the property, Martin donned hazmat gear and began the cleanup himself.
Equipped with a jet wash, paint, and a wallpaper scraper for the floor, he tackled the mess.
He described the cat food packets that had been left stuck to the floor with feces, too embedded to be removed by a steamer.
Disturbing images illustrate the years of accumulated trash and waste in the £800 per month home.
The property owner had known the tenants prior to their move-in, so he had assumed they would care for his home.
He recounted: “There were two tenants, a couple but not married.
“He had an illness and couldn’t get out much, so they stopped maintaining the house out of laziness.
“Eventually, they ceased cleaning or going upstairs.”
The couple abandoned the entire upper floor, only using the downstairs toilet and kitchen sink, both of which were severely clogged.
After blocking all water outlets, they resorted to using a kitchen kettle and lived on Cup a Soups.
Not a single bin bag or trash bin ever left the house, Martin mentioned.
Despite being a landlord for over a decade, Martin chose to leave the profession and sell the house.
The property owner incurred a total loss of six months' rent due to the situation, excluding costs for removal and cleaning.
He stated: “I’m definitely not going to be a private landlord anymore. There may be future opportunities, but I don’t believe it’s a landlord’s responsibility.
“It’s quite a shock to see what can happen.”
The terraced house has since been sold and is now rented out for more than double Martin’s previous rate.
