LaLiga: Xabi Alonso tells Real Madrid two players he wants to sign

Published on May 02, 2025 at 06:48 AM

Xabi Alonso is believed to have drawn up a two-man shortlist of players he wants to sign as Real Madrid manager if he replaces Carlo Ancelotti.

The Spaniard, who is currently head coach of Bayer Leverkusen, is regarded as the frontrunner to take over Los Blancos this summer.

Ancelotti is expected to leave the Bernabeu and take over the Brazil national team.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Alonso is already planning his squad and will demand for two players.

They are Martín Zubimendi and Florian Wirtz. Both players are well-known to Madrid scouts, who have kept tabs on them for some time.

Zubimendi from Real Sociedad reportedly has a €60 million release clause, and in the absence of Toni Kroos, he is seen as a fitting replacement to restore balance and fluidity in the heart of midfield.

Meanwhile, Wirtz, who is Leverkusen’s major creative outlet, could cost up to €100m and Bayern Munich are also interested in the German playmaker.
