Lagos Island boss clears air on arrest by ICPC

Published on July 03, 2025 at 06:54 AM

The Executive Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Hon. Muibi Alade Folawiyo, has refuted claims circulating in some sections of the media that he was arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, over alleged misappropriation of public funds.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Olushoga Olushola, Folawiyo clarified that he was merely invited by the ICPC for questioning regarding a petition allegedly submitted by people he described as detractors attempting to tarnish his image ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in Lagos State.

The statement noted that the Chairman honoured the invitation in good faith and fully cooperated with the anti-corruption agency. He stated that he was not arrested at any point during the process and has since resumed his official duties.

“As a responsible and law-abiding citizen, Hon. Folawiyo honoured the ICPC’s invitation and engaged with the Commission professionally, confident that the facts would speak for themselves,”; the statement read.

He also urged the public, particularly residents and stakeholders within Lagos Island East LCDA, to disregard what he described as misleading and sensational reports aimed at causing unnecessary alarm.

The Chairman expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his constituents for their continued support, prayers, and solidarity, reaffirming his commitment to transparency, accountability, and public service.
