The Lagos State Government has begun medical screening for residents intending to participate in the 2026 Holy Pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mr AbdulHakeem Ajomagberin.
According to him, the exercise is scheduled to run from Wednesday, January 14, to Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Ajomagberin explained that the screening programme, coordinated by the Board’s medical team under the leadership of Dr Mazeedat Erinosho, will take place at 10 designated centres across the state.
He noted that the centres were carefully selected to ensure accessibility and smooth operations.
Under the arrangement, Local Government Areas have been grouped and assigned to specific screening venues. Agege and Ifako-Ijaiye pilgrims will be screened at the Agege Local Government Secretariat and General Hospital, Orile-Agege.
Ikeja and Oshodi-Isolo pilgrims will attend screenings at the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat and designated diagnostic centres at LASUTH, Ikeja.
Pilgrims from Shomolu and Mushin will be screened at the Mushin Local Government Secretariat and approved diagnostic centres, while those from Eti-Osa, Epe and Ibeju-Lekki will undergo screening at the General Hospital, Ibeju-Lekki.
Badagry and Ojo pilgrims are assigned to the General Hospital, Badagry.
Other centres include Ajeromi-Ifelodun for Amuwo-Odofin, Apapa and Ajeromi-Ifelodun pilgrims; Surulere for Surulere, Lagos Mainland and Lagos Island; Ikorodu for Ikorodu and Kosofe; Alimosho for Alimosho pilgrims; and designated facilities at LASUTH, Ikeja, for government officials.
The Board Secretary urged all intending pilgrims to fully participate in the screening exercise, stressing that attendance is mandatory.
He warned that any pilgrim who fails to undergo the medical screening would be disqualified from obtaining a visa from the Saudi authorities.
In a related development, the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has appointed Local Government Schedule Officers to coordinate and manage the welfare of pilgrims both in Nigeria and in Saudi Arabia.
Ajomagberin said the appointments, which were approved by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mr Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, were announced during a meeting held at the Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja. The meeting was also attended by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Islamic Matters, Hon. Ahmad Abdullahi Jebe.
He charged the newly appointed officers to demonstrate dedication and professionalism in carrying out their duties, assuring that the state government remains committed to ensuring a safe, orderly and comfortable pilgrimage experience for all Lagos pilgrims.
