The Lagos State Government has initiated a coordinated enforcement operation along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, aimed at removing illegal structures and alleviating traffic congestion on this heavily trafficked route.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made the announcement on Monday through a statement posted on his official X account.
According to Wahab, the clearance operation began at Alakija in the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area and is progressing through Iyana Iba.
He stated that enforcement activities are currently taking place opposite Lagos State University (LASU), with additional operations being conducted around Alaba Market in the Ojo Local Government Area.
Wahab explained that the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Agency (LAGESA), in collaboration with other enforcement units under the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, is spearheading this initiative.
“The clearance operation started at Alakija and has advanced through Iyana Iba. It is currently ongoing opposite LASU, with active enforcement also occurring at Alaba Market along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway,” Wahab noted.
The commissioner emphasized that this operation is part of the state government’s dedication to enhancing environmental hygiene, restoring order to public spaces, and facilitating the smooth flow of traffic along the expressway, in accordance with established environmental and urban planning regulations.
