The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has accused the government of demolishing citizens' properties without prior notice, stating that such actions are unlawful and insensitive.
In a post on his verified X account on Monday, Obi expressed that the government's actions are pushing Nigerians further into hardship.
According to DAILY POST, several plazas were recently demolished at the trade fair complex in Ojo LGA, Lagos State.
This operation was reportedly conducted by officials from the Lagos Ministry of Physical Planning, the Lagos State Building Control Agency, the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency, and the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority.
The former Governor of Anambra condemned the deliberate destruction of people's homes, shops, and goods by government agencies.
He stated that such actions are unacceptable, particularly under an administration whose policies have driven millions of Nigerians into poverty within the last 29 months.
Obi emphasized that instead of exacerbating citizens' hardships, the government should focus on compassion and relief measures for struggling families.
“This is occurring nationwide at a time when the government should be helping citizens escape poverty. Instead, it is dragging them deeper into hardship,” he remarked.
“These demolitions destroy livelihoods, undermine businesses, and jeopardize the economic security of hardworking citizens,” he added.
