The Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KWASAA) has expressed concerns regarding the rise of unregulated advertisements on mini-transport buses (Korope) and tricycles (Keke Marwa) within the state.
During a meeting with various leadership groups from transport associations in the state on Friday, the Acting General of KWASAA, Toba Adeyeye, pointed out that this trend has created opportunities for scammers and individuals promoting unapproved drugs and beverages to disseminate misleading and potentially harmful messages to the public.
Adeyeye emphasized that the safety and well-being of Kwarans is a top priority for Governor Abdulraham Abdulrazaq and affirmed that the agency would not tolerate any advertisements that could pose risks to the public.
The general manager announced that any individual, business, or organization wishing to advertise on mini buses or tricycles must formally submit a request to KWASAA, including the proposed advertisement design, and obtain official approval before such materials can be displayed by transport operators.
In response, the State Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Yemi Aliu, committed to communicating the resolutions of the meeting to union members and ensuring that all individuals looking to place advertisements on vehicles are directed to the agency for proper authorization.
Similarly, Abdulganiyu Isiaka Agba, the Public Relations Officer of the Transport Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), called for increased public awareness to better inform citizens about the new and commendable directives introduced by KWASAA.
Additionally, Mr. Babatunde Abdulganiyu, the Administrative Secretary of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), assured the agency of the association’s willingness to fully collaborate with the state government to protect the lives and property of Kwarans.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all parties to work together to ensure safe, responsible, and regulated outdoor and transit advertising in Kwara State, in line with global best practices.
