But in perhaps his most audacious move yet, the 32-year-old was announced as a

Helping put the deal together was KSI’s manager Mams Taylor, who co-founded with the YouTube pioneer in 2022.

Taylor told SunSport: “I worked very hard to put that deal together.

“I found the club, I knew JJ wanted something in London that would be convenient and everything just started making sense and falling into place.

“I’m glad we got it over the line.”

Plans were first put in place three years ago when KSI and Logan Paul’s Prime drinks company considered taking over a team.

Taylor said: “We came close. Getting into advanced stages with one. One was kind of a really good opportunity as well.

“It just didn’t materialise for whatever reason and so I’ve been on the lookout with with a very, very good friend of mine who’s a football expert.

“I’m a Liverpool fan and I could give you a lot of knowledge from the 70s till now, not so good now.

“But for me, I love football, but JJ’s incredibly passionate about it and the team we have are incredibly passionate, very experienced.

“So I think it’s gonna be a really nice, slow, steady rise. And it’s really about community.

“A lot of new fans are gonna come to the table and we’re gonna make sure that they feel the love as well but really never gonna lose sight of the community.

“That’s where it’s all started and the plan is to bring the club to greatness.”

And in just five years, they have gone from non-league to the Championship – with McElhenney helping negotiate transfer deals himself.

And Taylor expects KSI – real name – to have a similar approach.

He said: “He’ll be probably more hands on. Listen, when there’s a game going on in our group text, JJ is very, very passionate.

“Let’s just say, I haven’t seen him this excited for anything for a very long time, if at all, like this is new lengths of excitement for him.

“And he’s very respectful of the current structure, the fan base and everything, so I think it was important.

“People know he’s not going to just come here, spend a load of dough, disrespect the current system that’s in place.

“He’ll make the right changes and take time and really, really grow authentically and organically.”

The Daggers were relegated from the National League last season and sit 13th in the National League South.

‘He’s taking a break right now’

But Taylor said is here to bring them to England’s top flight for the first time since their 1992 inception.

He said: “Of course, I mean, we only get into things that we think we’re going to be the best at, otherwise why try?”

KSI has been out of the boxing ring since October 2023 – when he was controversially beaten for the first time on points by .

A hand injury and illness sidelined him from comeback bouts – forcing KSI to take a step away from boxing – despite still promoting Misfits.

The door for a return remains open as Taylor said: “I saw him in an interview saying he’s taking a break, so I’ll take that at face value.

“He’s taking a break right now. He’s excited about a few other things. But with JJ, if he becomes excited about boxing again, that could be where he goes.

“You don’t know with him, he might be excited about wrestling in the future, he might be excited about, who knows what?

“And that’s the fun part, you’re kind of learning as you go along.

“He’s the captain of the ship and when JJ’s excited about going into a certain direction, the team accommodate and find the right opportunities and put the right plays together and that’s what it is.”
