"Beloved 24-Year-Old Teacher Discovered Lifeless After Night Out"

A YOUNG teacher was found lying dead on the floor following a cardiac arrest after a night out with friends, an inquest has heard.

Emily Rose Browning, 24, tragically died in her home in December 2024 after going to bed having consumed and cocaine.

An inquest concluded the “kind” and “caring” primary school teacher died of a cardiac arrest following a night out.

It is likely she died after vomit entered her lungs while she lay on the floor, Wales Online reported .

Coroner Graeme Hughes concluded her death was likely caused by: “The intoxicating effects of alcohol and illicit drug use, leading to aspiration of vomit, and a devastating hypoxic brain injury.”

During the course of the night, first at home then out in , Emily “consumed alcohol and cocaine”, the coroner said.

He added: “She became intermittently unwell, and friends did have some concerns for her welfare.

“She and her boyfriend returned home and she went to bed.

“After he returned home a short while later, she was found on the floor of the bedroom.”

An ambulance was then called, and Emily was taken to the University Hospital of .

She was taken ill on December 7 2024, and died days later in the hospital on December 10.

Coroner Mughes concluded the well-liked young teacher’s death was alcohol and drug related.

Emily grew up in Somerset but moved to Cardiff for university, later becoming a teacher at Gladstone Primary School in the city.

Colleagues said who left a “lasting impact” on the pupils in her care.

In a tribute, they added: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Emily, a beloved teacher at Gladstone, whose kindness, passion, and dedication left a lasting impact on every child, colleague, and parent who had the privilege of knowing her.”

A fundraiser was set up in her honour to raise funds for a memorial garden at the primary school.

The school said they hoped to “create a space that embodies the warmth and compassion Emily shared with us every day”.

“To honour her memory, we are going to create a memorial garden.

“This garden will be a space for reflection, joy, and growth…a place where children can learn through outdoor experiences, and find peace and inspiration.

“It will reflect Emily’s values of nurturing curiosity, creativity, and well-being in every learner.”

In an emotional tribute to his late girlfriend, Jack told WalesOnline : “I remember when I first met Em back she just stood out to me a bit.

“She had what her dad calls the Ems effect, which was just that lasting impression on everyone she met, always putting a smile on people’s faces.”
